From the Pastor's Heart

Youth News

Andrew, Philip, and Matthew are on this pastor’s heart because they brought people to Jesus. You can check it out for yourself in Jn 1:41, 45; and Matt 9:9-12. Most churches grow best through relationships. Almost all of the people who have started coming to Calvary, since I came, have had previous connections of one kind or another. I think of a man who worked with a member of Calvary. The man and his wife joined, then their daughter joined, and when she got married, her husband then joined. I think of a couple who started coming to Calvary because of their son, who had come because of a friend who was already a member here. I think of another couple whose parents had been long-term members here. (The two daughters of this younger couple were subsequently baptized here at Calvary.) I think of another family who became members after the wife/mom married a man who had belonged to Calvary for years before they married. I think of another couple who came to us through a common interest shared by the husband and one of Calvary’s staff members. So I have good reason to believe the most solid church growth happens through relationships we have with people outside our church. Let’s keep that in mind, and let’s bring somebody to church.

Hello church family! The Youth Group had a wonderful time this past Sunday afternoon as we spent a couple of hours at the Watersprings Ranch in Texarkana, AR. Twenty-eight children and teenagers were waiting on us when we arrived. We took fourteen from our church.   Everyone seemed to enjoy the games and especially the one with water balloons. To conclude our visit, we served up banana pudding, brownies and drinks. The kids at the ranch are always so appreciative of anything done for them. We will definitely be going back.

This Saturday (Oct. 1), six of our Calvary youth will be combining with others from our church to participate in the One Day Mission Trip to Mena/Dequeen. Nathan
Phillips, Jose Arroyo, Andrew Washington, Adam Wylie, Joe Dansby and Brandon Cole are the teenagers answering God's call to western Arkansas. Please remember them in your prayers for this Saturday.
May God "fan into flame" (2 Tim. 1:6) His gifts in these young men.
